There’s just one problem: women aren’t too keen on the idea.

In a bid to mitigate the economic risks posed by falling birthrates, the party announced in 2015 that it would allow married couples to have two children. But after a brief uptick in 2016, the national birth rate has been falling year-on-year — prompting the party to loosen the policy even further to three children.

為了減緩出生率下降所構成的經濟風險，中國共產黨在2015年宣布允許夫妻生二胎。然其全國出生率在2016年短暫上升後已逐年下降，促使中共更進一步鬆綁生育政策，允許生三胎。

Still, the public doesn’t appear convinced. Many argued that raising three children would be prohibitively expensive, and out of reach for most urban couples, many of whom face stagnating wages, fewer job opportunities, and grueling hours at work.

然而，民眾看似不買單。許多人宣稱，養三個孩子很燒錢，大部分都會夫妻根本力猶未逮，他們當中有不少人面臨薪資停滯、工作機會不多與工時超長等困境。
