On what should have been Opening Day, the pinstriped uniforms of the New York Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies appeared in a different fashion. Two weeks after the novel coronavirus ground all major U.S. sports leagues to a halt, the fabric used to manufacture official jerseys for Major League Baseball will become protective masks and gowns for medical professionals.

Fanatics, the company that manufactures MLB uniforms, has halted production of jerseys at its Pennsylvania factory and will instead make these necessary items from the polyester mesh.

職棒大聯盟制服製造商Fanatics的賓州工廠已停止生產球衣，改將這些聚酯纖維經編網布拿來製造這些必需品。

"When the country is in need the way it is, it’s our privilege and opportunity to try to chip in in a small way," Michael Rubin, the founder and executive chairman of Fanatics, said in a telephone interview. "If we can save even one life, that’s better than making baseball uniforms and jerseys."

「當國家急需（這些醫療補給品）時，我們很榮幸能有機會如此微不足道地貢獻一己之力，」Fanatics創辦人兼執行長麥可．魯賓在電話訪問中如此表示。「我們要是能救一條人命，將會好過製造棒球制服與球衣。」
