Chery began meeting local dealers, BYD planned six dealerships and started vehicle import procedures, while Geely-owned Lotus and state-owned Changan also prepared Canadian launches.

Although Canada allows only a small number of Chinese vehicle imports under low tariffs, limiting short-term profits, automakers see the country as a strategic gateway to the U.S. market.

Industry experts note that Canada’s consumer preferences and vehicle regulations closely resemble those of the United States, making it an ideal testing ground.
